Global Communication Association Conference

Sultan Qaboos University, Bayan University College, Mazoon University College, and Purdue University Calumet, USA

Interested communication researchers, scholars, and graduates are invited to submit paper and panel proposals for inclusion in the 2008 Global Communication Association (GCA) Conference related to Globalization and Media in the Middle East.  Authors are invited to submit papers and panel proposals that:

  • Discuss the impact of new communication technologies on the cultural and national identity of the Middle East.
  • Critically analyze the future of journalism profession and journalism practices in the Middle East.
  • Discuss and analyze the existing and merging legal and policy issues pertaining to development and the communication technologies—particularly the Internet.
  • Present studies that assess the role of mass media in international relations.
  • Explore the impact of negative stereotyping on Arabs, Muslims and the Middle East in general.
  • Discuss and analyze globalization, media, cultural diversity and religion in the Middle East
  • Examine trends in mass communication theories and media research in the Middle East.
  • Discuss wars, regional conflicts, crisis communication, and the role of regional and international media.
  • Explore the evolving patterns of teaching, learning, and education in the Middle East.

Proposals:

Please submit a brief abstract (approximately 500 words) of the Arabic language papers, including your complete contact information and affiliation, to Dr. Obaid Al-Shaqsi, Dean of Bayan College, Oman, (woshail@hotmail.com) no later than July 30, 2008 (Extended Deadline).  The English language papers should be submitted to Dr. Yahya R. Kamalipour, Purdue University Calumet (ykamalip@purude.edu).  Panel proposals must include theme, abstract, title of each paper, a brief description of each paper (200 words), complete contact information, and email address of each presenter. Complete paper and panel submission deadline is August 30, 2008 (Extended Deadine).
