The Center for Global Studies (CGS) at Purdue University Calumet was launched in the fall of 2006. Purdue University Calumet (one of the five campuses of the Purdue system), is located in a culturally diverse community of a dozen interconnected towns (Northwest Indiana). Th campus is approximately 25 miles from downtown Chicago, Illinois, and is geographically ideal for the Center for Global Studies.

In this globalized world, past assumptions, expectations, and understandings of social relations, business practices, group psychology, and cultural exchange are seriously inadequate for explaining and organizing life. None are equipped for investigating and explaining a multi-disciplinary phenomenon. The Center for Global Studies will bring together communication, history, political science, and other disciplines, and connect researchers nationally and internationally, in pursuit of fresh and rigorously evaluated information about the practices, strategies, and trends in education, global culture, media, politics, and economics. This work will infuse and inspire the curriculum at Purdue University Calumet. The Center will also disseminate its discoveries and studies to the interested public, K-12 schools, as well as to specialist researchers. The ultimate goal is to establish the Center as a national resource with an international reputation for the study of globalization across disciplines.
